Saudi Arabia's mega-city project, "The Line," at Neom Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia's 170 km long megacity is now under construction.

Two skyscrapers that span an expanse of desert and mountainous terrain will be part of a future Saudi megacity.

Neom, the megacity project known as "The Line," in Saudi Arabia's northwestern Tabuk area, has started development. Since it was first shown in 2017, NEOM has drawn criticism for its extravagant proposals, including flying taxis and robot maids, even as economists and architects have questioned its viability.

However, the drone camera has now recorded a portion of the vast site and the construction film has been made public. In the middle of the desert, multiple vehicles and machineries can be seen at work in the video.

The Line is the aggregate name for the parallel constructions made up of buildings covered with mirrors that span more than 170 kilometers (more than 100 miles).

The National reported that The Line's plans have been revealed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It will be the first city in the world to run entirely on renewable energy sources, such as hydrogen and solar energy. The Line's inhabitants will reside in linked civilizations governed by artificial intelligence and built to get along with the environment. To build a new style of life, the futuristic development will priorities walkability, sustainable energy, and technology.

According to Bloomberg, Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, is the mastermind behind the ambitious NEOM project, which wants to erect twin buildings that will be hundreds of miles long and 500 meters (1,640 feet) tall.

The metropolis is barely 200 meters wide, 170 kilometers long, and 500 meters above sea level, according to the NEOM website.

In contrast to typical cities, people's health and wellness will take precedence above infrastructure and transportation, according to the official website. "There won't be any roads, automobiles, or pollution. It will function on 100% renewable energy.
